SS 61 NE 6/52 CHITTLEHAMHOLT Head Barton

GV II

Farmhouse. 1872 by datestone. Unrendered stone rubble with brick dressings and quoins. Hipped slate roof with rendered brick stacks with oversailing brick courses to the capping to each side, and large stack to hipped end of rear service wing. Rectangular plan house, 2 rooms deep with principal front room to each side of stairhall. Service wing to rear right side. 2 storeys. 3-window range. All original fenestration intact of 16-paned hornless sashes with slightly cambered brick lintels and brick quoins. Gabled slate roof to stone rubble porch with chambered brick lintel, brick quoins and small 4-paned windows to each side. 6-panelled inner door, the 4 upper panels glazed. Datestone MR 1872. Tripartite sashes to right side of rear wing. Interior: Largely unaltered since C19. Head Barton is one of the more substantial farmhouses built by the Rolle family, and is imposingly situated overlooking the River Mole.
