SWALLOWFIELD CHURCH ROAD SU 76 NW (north-east side) The garden gate and walls approx- 8/38 imately 75 metres north-west of the stable block to Swallowfield 1.8.52 Park (formerly listed as Swallow- field Park and gateway from garden onto path leading to courtyard) G.V. II Doorway now garden gate and adjoining walls enclosing the kitchen garden. Late C17 gate by Talman stone. Architrave flanked by pilasters with garlands, broken segmental pediment with swags and drapes on carved brackets. The walls are C18 and early C19, brick, approximately 4 metres high with weathered top. The return section on the north-east has a plinth and rises to an elliptical curved top with dentil course, and has 3 square recesses panelled at high level ; and with segmental brick arches at low level. The garden gate was formerly a doorway in Swallowfield Park House. V.C.H. Vol.III p.267 B.0.E. (Berkshire) p.238.
