2/21 Higher Ansty House 29-12-76 GV II

Detached house, formerly a farmhouse. Early C18 - but service range may be earlier. Brick walls, plastered at front; tiled roof; brick end stacks projecting externally from gable wall. Main block of double-pile plan with parallel roofs. Service range at left end, set back, and projecting to rear. Main house of 2 storeys and attics. Service range extended to rear as a single-storeyed outbuilding, of brick with tiled roof. C20 porch in angle of main block and service range. This has plastered walls up to first floor; weatherboarded above. C20 panelled door under moulded hood on brackets. In main block, ground and first floors each have 2 sash windows with glazing bars. Attic has 2 segmental-roofed dormers with casements with glazing bars. In front wall of service range, one casement window with lead lights on each floor. At right end of main range a C20 single-storey extension with hipped roof. In rear wall of main block, some casement windows with lead lights. C18 closed stone stair with turned balusters and moulded handrail. Several C18 fireplace surrounds and raised panel doors. RCHM Monument 16. (Dorset. Vol.III)
