3/131 Charborough Tower 20/11/59 GV II *
Tower "folly". Built 1790, partly reconstructed and heightened 1839 after lightning damage. Plastered walls, lead flat roof with parapet. Octagonal plan. Of 5 stages, each slightly recessed, divided by moulded string courses. Angle buttresses with pinnacles to the 2 lower stages. Pointed arched door- way with 2-light traceried window over. Blind windows in the 3 centre stages. Open traceried windows in the top stage. Internally, a stone spiral stair with ornamental iron balustrade leads up to the viewing chamber in the top stage.
