CROXDALE AND HETT HIGH CROXDALE NZ 23 NE 6/62 High Croxdale 30/10/81 Farmhouse and flanking barns (formerly listed in Sunder land Bridge C.P.) II Farmhouse and adjoining, flanking barns. Early C18 farmhouse with C19 fenestration and c.1760 barns. Narrow hand-made brick in irregular bond and brick chimney stacks. Barn at left has rubble return and Welsh slate roof. House and barn at right have ridged concrete roof tiles. 2-storey farmhouse. 3 original blocked window openings on each floor. Central late C20 door flanked by replaced 12-pane sashes in C19 openings with flush stone lintels and projecting sills. Steeply-pitched roof has swept eaves and partly rebuilt end stacks. Tumbled-in brick gables. Single-storey, 2-bay barns break forward and have raised stone quoins at ends and dentilled brick eaves. Each has a central blocked doorway in a raised ashlar surround with oversized alternating jambs and a triple keystone. Barn at right has steeply-pitched roof and tumbled-in brick gable. Barn at left has roof of slightly lower pitch. C20 lean-to shed on right return and derelict L-plan farmbuildings on rear of barn at left are not of special interest. Barns were added to farmhouse to form a symmetrical landscape feature terminating the avenue running east from Croxdale Hall.
