Details
CROXDALE AND HETT THE AVENUE NZ 2737 (South side, off) Croxdale Estate 17/49 The Mill House II Former mill house now private house, c.1771 with mid C19 wing. Coursed sandstone rubble and Welsh slate roofs. Dressed stone and brick chimney stacks. 3-storey, 3-bay main block has flush squared quoins. Central replaced 4-panel door and 4-pane overlight. Replaced 4-pane sashes, and small square 4-pane lights on top floor, in openings with alternating jambs, flush lintels and projecting sills. Roof with ridge stack at right. Taller, flat-coped gable end on left return is all that remains of former paper mill rebuilt 1771-2. Similar height, 2-storey gable-fronted wing at right. Projecting external chimney on gable end. 2-bay right return with full-height canted wood bay. Roof, with bracketed eaves, has coped gables and shaped kneelers. 2-storey, 2-bay added outshut under pent roof on rear of main block. Roof of main block has 4 adzed A-frame trusses, crossed at ridge and carrying 3 levels of purlins.
