BOURNMOOR CHESTER ROAD NZ 35 SW (South side) Bournmoor 5/6 Bournmoor Cricket Club House II

Former National School, now club house for Bournmoor Cricket Club. 1870. Polychrome brick (buff with light-red banding and diaperwork); light-red plain tiled roof and brick chimney stacks; hung Welsh slates on spirelet.

Main block facing cricket field: one storey plus attic; 6 bays. Central buttress with offsets flanked by segmental-headed windows with replaced casements; paired lancets in other bays. Dentilled eaves band. 6 dormers with boarded windows and hipped roofs. Steeply-pitched roof has coped gable parapets and crested ridge tiles. Central octagonal-plan ridge spirelet with slighlty-swept eaves and short arcaded belfry. End stacks. Set-back, lean-to porches, on both returns, with 2-order pointed doorways; blocked on left porch. Single-storey, 3-bay wings behind porches, running parallel to main front; right wing partly hidden in late C20 addition; left wing with blocked paired lancets; steeply-pitched roofs. 4 linked gabled wings on rear of main block; projecting end wings have large pointed windows (blocked on right wing); lower centre wings hidden by late C20 addition.

Late C20 additions on returns and rear are not of special interest.
