CORFE CASTLE THE SQUARE (North side) SY 96 82 7/123 Messrs T R and P D Clews Shop and Store (formerly 20.11.59 listed as "Premises on North Side facing Town House and occupied by E O Holland" and "Cottage adjacent to Greyhound Hotel on West Side") including attached outbuildings GV II House and cottage, part used as shop and store. C17 origin - store (former cottage) on right, C18. Colourwashed rubble stone walls, stone slate roof half hipped at left end. Stack at right end. Main block of 2 storeys and attic. Shop door, and a flush door with fanlight. Ground floor also has 2 plain shop windows, one sash with glazing bars and evidence of an earlier, blocked window. First floor has 3 sashes with glazing bars. Attic has one hipped dormer with casements with horizontal glazing bars. Single-storey lean-to extension at left end, in matching construction. Range of attached outbuildings at rear, also in matching construction. Former cottage on right, now used as store, of one storey and attic. One ledged door and one flush door, both under segmental arches. Ground floor has one casement with glazing bars under similar arch. Attic has one gabled 1/2-dormer with sashes with glazing bars. A National Trust property. (RCHM, Monuments 16 and 17. Dorset. Vol. II).
