Details
SOUTH BEDBURN REDFORD LANE NZ 02 NE (West end) 17/169 The Grove bridge over Spurlswood Beck II Bridge. Dated 1843 for Robert Surtees in Latin in panels on parapet. Tooled coursed squared sandstone, some red, with ashlar dressings. Segmental arch with recessed voussoirs under roll-moulded dripmould. Well-cut panels above arches and on inner parapet face, those on west with inscription EXTRUXIT ROBERTUS SURTEES AD DCCC XLIII in Roman capitals, those on east with a Surtees emblem and motto - 3 feathers, motto eroded.
Parapets sweep out to road, and have overhanging rounded coping; shallow pilasters flank arch and rise to support projecting parapet coping.
