7/185 Presbytery to Roman Catholic Church of St. Mary
GV II
Presbytery, formerly a farmhouse. Early C18 refronted in mid-C19. Squared stone with C19 ashlar dressings; rear wing roughly-squared stone with cut dressings. C20 concrete tile roof, except for stone slabs on porch. T-plan.
South elevation 2 storeys, 3 bays. Plinth. Centre bay has steeply-gabled porch with pointed arch, flanking buttresses and finial cross; single-light window over. To left a canted bay window with a moulded cornice, and 2-light window above; to right two 2-light windows; all windows plain sashes in chamfered surrounds. Coped gables on moulded kneelers; stepped-and-corniced end stacks. To left a single-storey 1-bay link to church, with paired lancet windows, and string below embattled parapet with pierced merlons; single lancet on left return.
West elevation of rear wing shows 4 windows with false flat-arched lintels; two 12-pane Yorkshire sashes, a 9-pane fixed casement and a 4-pane sash, the ground-floor Yorkshire sash under a segmental head.
Interior: Front block largely mid-C19, with carved open-well closed-string stair. Rear wing has 2- and 3-panel doors on H hinges, and stone stair with splat balusters.
