BOCKING END 1. 885 (South East Side) BOCKING No 2 (formerly listed as House occupied by Holmes and Hills, Solicitors) TL 7523 1/2 25.10.51. II GV
2. An C18 dark red brick front with lighter red brick dressings and a brick plinth. 2 storeys and attics. 5 window range, double-hung sashes with glazing bars, in flush cased frames. The windows have recessed brick panels beneath the sills. The ground storey windows have wood shutters. A central 8-panel door with the upper panels glazed has a wood Roman Doric doorcase with fluted pilasters, triglyph frieze and a cornice. A raised brick band runs between the storeys. Roof tiled, hipped, with 2 C19 gabled dormers and a moulded wood eaves cornice. An early C19 grey gault brick wing extends on the south west side and adjoins the White Hart Hotel at the south end. 2 storeys. 4 window range, double-hung sashes with glazing bars, in plain reveals. A 4 panel door with semi-circular fanlight has plain reveals. Roof slate.
The White Hart Hotel and No 2 form a group with Nos 2 to 8 (even) Rayne Road and Nos 1, 3, 9 and 11 Bank Street, Braintree.
