GV II

House, now offices. Circa 1600, incorporating fragment of C14 house, altered 1984. Timber framed, plastered, roofed with handmade red plain tiles. Main range facing NW with 2 adjacent rear wings. Stack at junction of main range and left wing, another stack at right end of main range. Single-storey extension to rear of right wing. 2 storeys with attics. 2-window range of early C19 sashes of 16 Lights, and one late C19 similar sash on ground floor. One C19 casement in gabled dormer. C20 6-panel door in early C19 reeded architrave with paterae; one stone stp, almost flush with pavement. Chamfered axial beams with lamb's tongue stops, partly boxed. In right front bay, introduced non-structural moulded joists. In left front bay, early C19 fireplace, and plain joists of horizontal section, partly plastered. In left rear wing, wide wood-burning hearth. Exposed in the right wall is the framing of the end of a C14 hall, with wide curved display braces trenched into the studs, all heavily smoke-blackened. This abuts on a wide vehicle way with rooms over, which is part of no. 32 (item 9/62, q.v.). Major alterations in 1984 have destroyed much of the internal structure, and have introduced false features.
