GV II
House. Late C15, extensively restored in 1908. Timber framed, plastered with exposed imitation framing, roofed with handmade red plain tiles. Crosswing of former hall house, the remainder demolished, gabled and jettied to street, jetty underbuilt. Red brick external stack on left return. Single-storey lean-to extension to right rear. 2 storeys. Ground floor, one tripartite sash of 2:4:2 lights, first floor, square oriel with transom and 3 casements, both of 1908. A photograph taken in 1908 shows it before restoration, with close studding, 2 early CL9 sashes of 16 lights, and plain door at front; a photograph taken in 1909 shows the present imitation framing and front windows. The original hall house was divided into 3 tenements by 1675, of which the present building is probably one. (Wherein I Dwell, Earls Colne WEA, 1983, 1 and 49). Further renovation in progress at time of survey, April 1986.
