TL 8628-8728 EARLS COLNE LOWER HOLT STREET (south side)

Nos 8 and 10 (Formerly listed 9/100 as Newport Cottage and 21.6.62 adjoining tenement to Newport Cottage) GV II Pair of attached cottages, now one house. 1811. Painted brick with some plastered timber framing, roofed with handmade red plain tiles. Facing NW, with rear wing with gambrel roof at right end, and single-storey lean-to extension to rear of left end. One storey with attics. 4 early C20 casements, and one late C20 casement in enlarged aperture. No. 8 has 2 late C20 casements in lean-to dormers. No. 10 has one early C20 casement and one C19 horizontal sash of 8 lights in lean-to dormers. No. 8 has a door aperture blocked with brickwork. No. 10 has a half-glazed 4-panel door. Gambrel roof. (Alterations in hand, reported as at time of survey, April 1986). Included for group value.
