Bridge Farmhouse

II

House. Late C16, altered in C19 and C20. Timber framed, plastered, roofed with
handmade red clay tiles. 4 bays facing S, with internal stack in second bay
from left end, against rear wall, forming a lobby-entrance. C18/C19 milking
parlour to left, now incorporated in house, and C20 lean-to extension in front
of it, roofed with corrugated asbestos. 2 storeys. 3-window range of C20
casements. C20 door in gabled porch. Large wood-burning hearth facing to left
reduced for C20 grate. Chamfered axial beams throughout, mainly with lamb's
tongue stops, but apparently with step stops in right bay. Clasped purlin roof
with arched wind-bracing. The position of the stack against the rear wall
implies that the original stair was in front of it, since removed. RCHM 21.
