BENE'T STREET 1. 942 (South Side) No 16 (Barclay's Bank) TL 4458 SE 6/432 II 2. Mid C18, with considerable reconstruction in late C19, restored 1970. Yellow brick, with late C19 stone dressings. L-shaped, the shorter arm bowed forward. 2 storeys and attic. The longer arm has 6 windows and 2 doors, one blank on the ground floor, all late C19 openings, pedimented with alternate triangular and carved pediments. The ground floor was formed into a banking hall in the late C19. Above are nine sashes with glazing bars, five of them mid C18. Band at first floor level, modillion cornice, balustraded parapet, tiled mansard roof. The bowed wing has 3 storeys, a rusticated ground floor and pilasters. 3 windows, pedimented on the first floor, with keystone heads. Balustraded parapet. Some C18 interior features remain.
