TL 35 SE GREAT EVERSDEN KINGSTON ROAD (West side) 4/94 The Manor House 22.11.67 (formerly Listed as Manor Farmhouse) GV II*
Manor House. C1600 extended in C18. Timber framed, plaster rendered. Tiled roofs with two ridge stacks, one shafted. H-plan with a parallel range of C17 outbuildings at the rear linked to the main range in C18. Two storeys. Central block has a low parapet and a modillion cornice returned to the wings 2 : 3 : 2 window range of double hung sashes with single central vertical glazing bar. Central doorway with shouldered doorcase. Rear range also timber framed, rendered and tiled.-C18 stair house framed and rendered. Palladian window in west wall. Interior: C18 details including a paved hall with black setts at the corners and a stair house linking the front and rear ranges. The open-string staircase is approached through a screen in an elliptical arch with panelled pilasters and raised keyblock. The staircase is in three flights with moulded and swept rail and column-on-vase balusters with scrolled tread ends and curtail. There is a raised and fielded panelled dado. The ceiling of the stair hall has C18 plasterwork consisting of a cornice with egg and dart moulding, a circular main panel with acanthus leaves, radiating from a lamp hook. Other C18 details in the house include fielded panelling in a ground floor room, a Palladian window in the west front and two fireplaces in the north end rooms with moulded surrounds, panelled overmantels with cornices. On a moated site.
