Details
SOMERSHAM HIGH STREET 1. 5140 (north side) No 65 (The Grange) TL 36 77 11/10 II GV 2. Mid C18 house with C19 additions at rear. Red brick. Plain tiled roof with tumbled parapet gable ends. End stacks. Two-storeys and attics. Three gable dormers with later casements. Symmetrical five-window range of C19 hung sashes with slender glazing bars in gauged brick arches. Four with C19 pelmets with geometrical pattern ornament. Four similar windows and pelmets at ground-floor. Central doorway with early C19 doorcase of reeded pilasters, plain entablature and flat doorhood. Six-panelled door with semi- circular headed fanlight with glazing bars. Panelled reveals. Early C19 gault brick shaped wall to left hand with stone coping. Early C19 wing and additions at rear. Gault brick. Interior: with early C19 open-string main staircase of two flights with square section balusters. Upper two flights are mid C18. Closed-string with turned balusters. Early C19 marble fireplace surrounds, and cornice mouldings. C18 panelled doors at first-floor.
