HOLYWELL-CUM-NEERDINGWORTH BACK LANE 1. 5140 (north side) Holywell TL 37 SW 7/28 Briar Cottage II GV 2. Cottage dated 1635 on plaster inset in chimney, recently removed. Two unit plan, possibly originally larger. One-storey and attic. Timber-frame rough-cast, thatched roof. Parapet gable of two inch local brick and end stack to right hand. Two gabled dormers with horizontal sliding sash windows with glazing bars. Three ground-floor windows of varying sizes with glazing bars. Plank door. External stack to left hand gable where remaining part of cottage was demolished for weather-boarded studio with pantile roof built in 1920 by the Kings, local water colourists. Interior: Large inglenook hearth with two 'salt' recesses. Stop chamfered ceiling beams; enclosed staircase.
