8/55 Old Church of St. Helen 30.3.60 - II
Tower and portion of north wall of nave. c.1400 tower and C12 wall. Rubble with limestone and sandstone freestone dressings. Perpendicular 3-stage tower in rubble with limestone open chequers has 4-centred arched door in stone surround and drip mould, 3-light window above with intersecting tracery, hood mould with stops and relieving arch, slit windows and 2-light windows at upper stages, east side has high pointed arch to nave and line of former roof, weathered diagonal buttresses and strings. Wall has plain, round-headed (blocked) door with diaper moulding and carved imposts, and 2-light window with pointed arch and trefoil heads, stone quoins and remains of coped gable end and kneeler. Interior: some beams remain at upper stages of tower.
