Pair of attached houses. Late C17, refronted early C19 with later additions
and alterations. Rubble, rendered, stone dressings, double Roman and pantiled
roofs with gable stacks to Alveston Old House, plain tiled roof to Dial House.
Alveston Old House has south front of 2 storeys and 5 windows, all sashes,
single storey flat-roofed pavilion to each side with one window coping;
central panelled and glass door with pediment on brackets, canted bay to each
side with modillion cornice, 8-pane sashes in sides of bay; cornice, parapet
and coping. Rear has 3 storeys and 2 windows, all 16-pane sashes except ground
floor 3-light casements with chamfered mullions, C20 doors and extension to left
Dial House has north front of 3 storeys and 2 windows, all bashes except ground
floor, which has C20 casement to left and C20 bow window to right, central
panelled and glass door under modillion cornice, 1st floor triple window to
right with central sash and 4 panes to each side, single storey wing to west,
2 sashes, west side has shaped gable and coped verges, 2 windows at 2nd floor.
Interior: Alveston Old House has marble fireplaces, modillion cornices, C19
open well stair with turned balusters. Interior of Dial House not inspected.
