House. C17, altered early C18, with C20 alterations. Whitewashed rubble,
pantiled roof with gable stack to right and ridge stack at change in
roof level. 2 storeys, in 2 parts, to left with 2 windows, all 2-light
casements of C20, small single light under eaves to right, 1 1/2 storey
lean-to to left with 2-light casement; to right, 2-light casement at ground
floor and under eaves, higher roof level. Left return has rear wing
formed by lean-to, C20 door with sidelights and 2-light casement to left;
rear of left part has staircase bulge to right. Interior: not inspected
at time of survey (March 1985), list description of August 1976 includes
winder stair against stack in left part. Birthplace of John Whiting,
a prominent early Quaker (1656-1722), included principally for historic
