Details
YATTON C.P. LOWER CLAVERHAM ST 46 NW 5/174 Chestnut Farmhouse - II Farmhouse, new house. Mid C17 origin, extended to left later C17, refronted C18 with early C19 and C20 alterations. Limestone rubble, rendered, pantiled roof with raised coped verges, brick ridge and gable stacks. Originally T-plan with cross-passage and rear wing, infilled to each side of wing, ridge stack at original gable end. 2 storeys and 4 windows, 3 bays to right have ground floor 16-pane sash, 6-panelled door with pediment on brackets, 2 sashes; first floor has two 12-pane sashes and central 9-pane, all in exposed boxes; bay to left has 16-pane sash at ground floor and 12-pane at first floor; plinth, parapet and coping. Left return has 2-span roof with raised coped parapet between, not rendered, straight joint between and blocked door to left with brick segmental head. Right return not rendered, dairy block to rear right of 2 storeys extending further than gable end of front range, door and sidelight with iron stanchions, both with cambered stone head. Rear has gable end of rear wing has 3-light casement at ground floor, 16-pane sash in exposed box at first floor and 2-light attic casement; 2-storey addition in angle to right has C20 window, door in plain frame and 3-light C19 casement to right, blocked sash and 16-pane sash at first floor, gable end of rear wing curtailed to right when addition was built, extends lower to left; attached to left, 2-storey former dairy and cheese room has ground floor door and 2-light casement, external flight of 9 steps to cheese room door with wooden louvred opening to each side, lean-to attached to left. Interior: ground floor has fine studded door with strap hinges front room to right has former wide fireplace with oven recess. C18 cupboard with shaped shelves and curved back, chamfered and stopped beams with hooks, central room has C19 panelling and boxed beams, end room has dado panelling and shutters to windows; same beams without stops at first floor, curve to end wall to right possibly site of former stair, now C19 straight stair; first floor room in rear wing has fireplace with Bristol delft tiles under C19 hob-grate.
