HAWKESBURY C.P. HAWKESBURY ST 78 NE 4/111 Group of 9 Chest Tombs to east and south-east of Chancel of the Church of St Mary the Virgin

9 Chest tombs. Late C17th - early C19th. Ashlar with panelled sides and cornice; some have 'lyre ends' and some with highly decorative carving; particularly in south-east of the group. John Bence, 1674 (struck by lightening). The chest tombs form a good collection of classical and local tomb forms and contribute greatly to the setting of the church.
