5/301 Coombe Mill

II
Watermill now used as store. Circa mid to late C19. Stone rubble with brick
segmental arches to openings. Rag slate roof with hipped ends. Brick stack on right
hand hipped end.
Rectangular plan with waterwheel originally on east end. Built into side of bank
with ground rising to west and large loading entrance in first floor at west end.
Two storey south elevation with symmetrical two window garden front. Two 4 pane
casements on ground and first floor with central C19 plank door. Two storey
elevations on north and on east with undershot wheel removed. Mill leat survives.
Single storey elevation on west where ground rises with large opening below timber
lintel.
Interior: Circa late C19 machinery, largely of iron in pit along north wall.
Although derelict the machinery appears to be largely complete. First floor:
millstones removed. Remains of sack hoists. Bolted collar rafter roof.
Mill operating up to late 1940's.
