SJ 56 SW CLOTTON HOOFIELD C.P. TARPORLEY ROAD (South Side)

5/19 Yewtree Farmhouse and east front garden wall.

22/10/1952 II - Farmhouse: early C17 with extensions and restorations for the Tollemache estate. Timber framing with brick nogging on stone base, purple tile roof. 1 gable and 1 ridge brick chimney with diamond stacks. Lobby entry plan, later extended to long range. 1-storey and attic, 6-bay front. 21 by 2 tall small frames with angle braces to sill and wallplate. Windows are 2 and 3-light metal casements with applied lead glazing, 2 above in gabled and finialled dormers. Board door with iron strap hinges in the 4th bay. Left 2 bays are C19 extension. Interior: entry against timber-framed baffle. Hall to right has inglenook fireplace and chamfered ceiling beam on a post with stopped head. Similar beam in parlour. A 3-panelled and a 6-panelled door with fielded panels.

Running forward from the right hand corner is a garden wall of tooled sandstone blocks containing a mounting block of 5 steps with nosed arrises.
