2/7 Barrow Street Farmhouse
GV II
Farmhouse. C17 and C18; a date of 1611 on stack may be relevant to some internal fabric. Coursed and squared limestone rubble plain tile roof, ashlar stacks raised in brick. In L-plan form with gabled outer- arms and hipped return; may originally have been thatched as coped gables, to kneelers, stand well proud of roof surface. Plan not easy to decipher, later stair probably not original location. Front to road is two storeys, 3 windows, all 3-light case- ments with leading except top left, 2-light small-paned; all to wood lintels. Lean-to to right. Plain gable return left. Back has short wing with C20 flat dormer and 3-light leaded casement at ground and first floor; lean-to at gable, small single light to attic above. Main body has two 3-light leaded casements and one 2-light with glazing bars. Left is C20 door and gabled porch. Interior retains many good plank early doors, chamfered stopped spine beam and two good beams at south end. Lateral stair has splat baulsters and screen with moulded muntin rail; upper flight includes winders. One large bressumer fireplace in short wing. There is window now internal at the upper floor, north end. A good farmhouse less modified than most.
