Details
BELLERBY MAIN STREET SE 19 SW (north side) 7/6 Old Hall 13.2.67 II* GV House. Early C17. Rubble with sandstone ashlar dressings, stone slate roof. 3 storeys, 2:1 bays, L-shaped plan with wing to rear left. Quoins. Double-chamfered mullion windows. Cyma recta string courses. To right, projecting tower porch, with 2-leaf 6-panel door in quoined surround with ovolo on arris and triangular soffit to lintel. Inner Tudor-arched doorway with wave-moulded chamfer to arris on stops and old board door. First floor: 3-light window. Second floor: 3-light window with hoodmould. Gable with shaped kneelers and ashlar copings. Main range, ground floor: 30-pane casement window in 3-light surround; sash window in 3-light surround with left light blocked. First floor: two 3-light windows. String breaks forward in centre for rainwater pipe. Second floor: to left, moulded coping to parapet; two 3-light windows below hoodmoulds in gables with shaped kneelers, ashlar copings, and finial to left gable. Stepped stack, brick at top, to left, corniced end stack to right. Rear: double-chamfered mullion windows (wing); mullion windows below dripmoulds. Interior: to left, large Tudor-arched fireplace with wave-moulded chamfer on stops. On first floor, room to left and room in rear wing have smaller similar fireplaces. Doors with wainscot panelling leading out of hall and to 2 closets on first floor. Some old beams, including one with early iron strapping in first-floor right room. Roof with principal rafter trusses.
