11/30 Diana's House 10.1.53 GV II*

Gatehouse to Amesbury Abbey (q.v.). 1600. Flint, with stone quoins and dressings. Fissile stone slate roofs. Two storeys, triangular block with octagonal stair tower attached to south. Moulded string courses and eaves. Moulded architraves to 12-pane C18 windows. Stair tower of 4 stages with double chamfered square stone windows. Ogee roofs, stair tower has band of fishscale slates. Ashlar stone stack external to south-west face of main block. Inscription over 4-centred ground floor door reads 'Diana, her hous 1600.' Diana is alleged to have been a mistress of Edward Seymour.
