Large house. 1770 by John Crunden for Thomas Yorke with late C19 and early
C20 alterations. Rendered, stone dressings, slate roof. Central hall plan.
Tripartite facade: 3 storeys,3 bays gabled central feature flanked by slightly
projecting storeys single bay to left and right, also gabled. Central entrance
has recessed Tuscan porch of 2 columns and 2 pilasters; repressed entablature
with string course above and coat of arms of Yorke impaling Wright; moulded
architrave to entrance, 2-leaf doors of 4 panels each. 4 ground floor and 5
first floor windows have sashes; 3 second floor windows: left-hand 6 pane sashes,
casements in other 2; sill bands to all floors. Lunette window in central pediment.
Eaves stacks to left and right of central block. To left is c1880 2 storeys
2 bays service wing. Dressed stone. One ground floor and 2 upper floor windows
have sashes. Central ridge stack. At rear is c1900 2 storeys 4 bays extension
containing ground floor billiard room. Interior: hall contains open string
dog-leg staircase, stick balusters and ramped wreathed handrail. Dining room
and drawing room contain plaster friezes of festoons and fans with matching
chimneypieces.
