SD 94 SW GLUSBURN COLNE ROAD 6/77 (north side) 7/4/77 Glusburn Institute including walls to garden along Colne Road returning north along Croft Head for 10 metres (formerly listed as Crosshill Institute etc)

Village Institute of 1892 with clock tower added 1911. Dressed stone and ashlar with green slate roof. Two storeys with higher turrets and 4 bays. Windows mostly mullioned and transomed. One bay window of complex form rises through 3 storevs. A small open turret with stone cap and ball finials is corbelled out from parapet above a panel with a florid carved achievement (probably Horsfall). Over the doorway rises a stone domed clock tower with 4-panelled and domed pinnacles. Arcaded pierced parapet. To Institute Street there is a freestanding doorway of Baroque character. To the left hand side is a plainer facade with 3 gables. Attached is a low stone wall with domed piers and iron railings along Colne Road.
