Details
SCOSTHROP KIRKBY MALHAM ROAD SD 95 NW (West Side) 9/10 Town End Farmhouse Grid Ref: SD 3901 4596 GV II Farmhouse. Early C19 with C17 origins. Slobbered rubble, stone dressings, stone slate roof. Two storey, double fronted. Central entrance has projecting plain surround of milled sandstone. Four-panel door, upper two glazed with segmental- arched heads. All 4 windows are 3-light and have slightly projecting plain surrounds of milled stone, and projecting sills. All have fixed outer lights and late C19 sashes (no glazing bars). Stone coping to gables and shaped kneelers. Gable-end ridge stacks, 1 right-hand stack of brick. Right-hand return shows signs that the roof has been heightened. Left gable end weather wall projects slightly beyond coping. Scattered fenestration at the rear includes 3 double-chamfered 2- light windows with mullions now cut out and one 3-light double chamfered window with cavetto mullions and square heads. Former well cover to right of house of rock-faced stone includes reused datestone inscribed 1608 AMF with a halberd carved on it. Former privy behind house contains a reused chamfered doorway with recessed spandrels and datestone inscribed 1688 M and with a halberd and flower head carved on it. W A
