2. 1839. Built as the Public Rooms on land given by the Hon E R Petre, Lord of the Manor of Selby, in 1839. It subsequently became the Merchants' Institute in 1861, then the Museum. Brown brick. Stucco dressings. Pitched slate roof. Two storeys Pediment. First floor band. Rusticated quoins to ground floor. Three bays. Segment-headed sashes with rusticated surrounds on ground floor. Round-headed windows on first floor, with marginal glazing bard, moulded surrounds, and panelled aprons.
