School-room with attached school-house now 2 dwellings; unoccupied almshouses to rear. Early and mid C18. For the Wentworth estate. Red brick in English garden wall bond, stone slate roofs. Symmetrical 11-bay facade with 12 almshouses forming quadrangle to rear. 2-storey front range; single-storey almshouses. Gauged-brick archway to central passage (now with timber shoring). To right C20 part-glazed door flanked by old casements with horizontal glazing bars. To left of archway: 5 windows all with C20 top-hung casements with glazing bars. Continuous 3-course brick band to 1st floor. Unequally-hung 9-pane sash above archway; to right shorter windows as ground floor; to left, renewed 9-pane casements. All windows with flat brick arches. 4 course eaves band continuous across central 1-bay gable; oculus. Shaped kneelers and ashlar copings to all gables. Small timber bellcote to ridge of central gable. End stacks, central ridge stack.
Quadrangle: each dwelling has part-glazed door flanked by casements; only No 1 retains any old fenestration; Nos 5 and 8, in corners, lit from rear. Central passageway through rear range has 3-course eaves band and coped gable bearing oval stone panel carved with Wentworth insignia, inscription 'WENTWORTH HOSPITAL' and date which appears to read '1765'.
Interior: almshouses retain some C18 doors with original ironwork.
Iron railings to front set in round-coped, stone, plinth wall: octagonal bars, simple top rail; matching gate to right. To left, railings terminate at C20 brick gate pier.
Various additions to rear of almshouses not of special interest.
