2. Half timber-framed hall house originally, encased in stone in the C17 and restored in the 1920s, Two-storeys, gritstone irregularly coursed, large quoins. Stone slate roof. Central gable with saddlestone and kneelers. Four-light chamfered mullion window. Doorway with scalloped lintel dated 1678, drip mould over. Gabled south wing dated 1691, with later square mullion windows. Later wing stepped back to north C18/C19. Interior has some exposed chamfered beams and reset Jacobean panelling in living room. There is also a date stone of 1609. The initials J W stand for James Walton. J E R associated with the 1691 date stands for Johns and Elizabeth Rookes of Royds Hall.
