8/110 The Old Malt Kiln

Malt house, now used as art gallery and workshops. Probably early C19. Rubble brought to course, dressed quoins, stone slate roof. 2 ranges with parallel ridges forming an L-shape. 2 storeys and basement,5 1st-floor windows. Doorway with monolithic jambs approached up flight of steps. Sashed windows with tie-stone jambs to 1st floor. Doorway down to basement at junction with wing. Rear has windows to basement with deep inner chamfer.
Interior: basement has large spine beams carried on squared pillars, and malt kiln with vaulted roof, square on plan. Main room, now gallery, has stop-chamfered spine beams. Workshop has fish-bone king-post roof.
