Details
1. 5111 QUEENS ROAD Ilkley LS29 9QL ------------------- St John's Flats SE 1147 1/38 II 2. 1878-9. By R Norman Shaw. 2 and 3 storeys with basement and attics. Squared rubble. Slightly set back from road on descending slope. Asymmetrical composition. West end slightly angled southwards. South side (facing road): 5 windows, the left hand one modern, the 2nd an oriel (castellated and with carved belly), the others mainly mullioned and transomed. East end has entrance (now blind) with almost flat arched head with moulded pendant swelling in centre and dripmould over. Prominent gable chimney projecting over corbels, and scattered fenestration. The attics have evidently been modernised and are slate hung. Built for R W Atkinson, the house was converted to flats circa 1955.
