Ashcroft Farmhouse

GV II

Farmhouse. C17, with late C18 and early C19 alterations. Coursed stone, stone slate roof. 2 storeys, 5 lst-floor windows. Left-hand portion projecting. Plinth, quoins. Three doorways: those to left and centre in flush stone surrounds; that to right with chamfered, Tudor-arched surrounds inscribed 1657, converted to window. Two single-light windows in plain stone surrounds. In right section an ogee-headed opening with chamfered jambs and a 2-light double-chamfered mullion window (mullion removed) under a continuous hoodmould. 1st floor: 2 single-light windows in plain stone surrounds; double-chamfered mullion windows of 3, 1.0 and 4 (now 2) lights. Shaped kneelers, ashlar coping. Stacks to right end, and to ridge, off-centre. Rear: round-arched stair window in chamfered, quoined surround with keystone and impost blocks.
