Details
SOWERBY BRIDGE WARLEY WOOD LANE SE 0424 & SE 0524 (south side), Friendly 9/289 Nos 1/4, 2 and 3 - II House, now 3 dwellings. Probably early C17, extended at rear and converted to 5 cottages early-mid C19. Thin-coursed rubble and rubble brought to course; stone slate roof. 2 storeys, 3 bays. Quoins. Doorway on right has chamfered quoined surround with 2-piece Tudor-arched lintel. C19 doorway on right of central bay. Windows in the 2 right-hand bays are double-chamfered with hollow-moulded mullions and round-arched lights with sunk spandrels; the right bay has a 6-light window to each floor; the central bay a 4-light window to ground floor and 5-light window above. Left bay has a blocked ground-floor window and a 3-light chamfered mullion window above. Coping and crocketed finials to gables. Corniced ridge stack between 2 right-hand bays; later stack to right gable. Rear: 2 gables, the right one over 2 bays. Left bay: a 4-light flat-faced mullion window to each floor. Central bay: a similar 5-light window to each floor, some mullions removed. Right bay: a 4-light window to each floor in partial surrounds of double-chamfered mullion windows. Shaped kneeler on right. Stack in valley. Right return: to right on 1st floor a 4-light, now 2-light, chamfered mullion window.
