II
House, former dower house to Scaitcliffe Hall for the Crossley family. Picturesque Vernacular Revival, probably later C19. Ashlar with slate roof (fishscale slates). T-shaped on plan with accentuated irregularities. Two storeys. 3 bays to front, including cross-wing at left; 3 to rear. Porches in both re-entrant angles, open and pedimented to the front, closed and perhaps heightened at the rear. Windows are hollow chamfered and of very varied form, some to ground floor being very slightly canted out; that to end of range is carried beyond ground floor on 2 columns. Sashes. 3 lateral stacks, which with the oversailing eaves produce a restless outline. Crest on cross-wing gable: for the Crossley family.
