Details
SE 21 SW JAGGER LANE Emley Moor 1/37 Main barn, to north of Moor Head Farmhouse

L-shaped barn. C17 or earlier timberwork. C18 and C19 stone cladding in various builds and with recent alterations. Hammer dressed stone and coursed rubble. Stone slate roof, hipped at the 90° turn. Large recent opening in end wall. Part blocked cart entry to side within lean-to addition. Smaller doorway opposite. Later additions to each end. The main barn contains 4 king post trusses with struts and extended king post taking diagonally set ridge. All supported on posts braced to tie-beams. At 90? a further truss on posts as before, and evidence of a 2nd truss, with posts at lower level only. Many timbers are stop chamfered. Rafters and the timberwork supporting the hip appear to be C19.
