SE 11 SE PENISTONE ROAD (east side) 5/87 Kirkburton

29th August 1978 Town Hall (formerly listed as Springfield House) G.V. II

Large detached former house. Early C19. Ashlar with plinth. Hipped slate roof with later small raised glass lantern. Ashlar stacks. Two storeys. Continuous 1st floor sill band, moulded eaves cornice and blocking course. 3-bay front, 4-bay sides. Sash windows with glazing bars, full length on ground floor. Central door to main front. 3 steps lead to portico with fluted columns with 'Tower of the Winds' capitals and backing pilasters. Full dentilled entablature. Staircase window to right side.

Interior: Elliptical arched central lobby. Moulded plaster cornices and panels to ceiling. Panelled doors with moulded plaster pediments over with foliage and fruit, all to same design. Shuttered windows. Curving stone staircase with wrought iron baluster and mahogany rail. The soffit of each step is shaped. The decoration to the rooms has been altered.
