GV II

Stables, now accommodation for residential college, attached wall with mounting block and gate piers. c1810 by Thomas Taylor for Godfrey W. Wentworth (Markham p45). Hammer-dressed stone and ashlar, roof not visible. Faces North stable block (q.v.) across courtyard. 2 storeys, 11-bay symmetrical facade. Plinth. Central 3 bays, in ashlar, break forward and have semicircular-arches (now windows) the voussoirs aligned to the courses. Flanking bays have doorway with glazed overlight and three 16-pane sash windows with lintels and sills. Frieze, cornice and blocking course. Attached to right end, wall with terminating gate pier which has banded rustication, curved ashlar coping. Mounting block attached to front: double-flight of 5 stone steps, aligned to curve of wall, with arched dog-kennel under.
