BURGHFIELD MAN'S HILL SU 66 NE (east side) 4/13 Culverlands II

Large country house in parkland and landscaped setting. C18 altered and enlarged late C19 and C20. Painted stucco,slate hipped roofs. Irregular plan. 2 storeys. Scattered chimneys. Small plinth, moulded eaves cornice, balustraded parapet. Sash windows most with glazing bars, in moulded architraves, those on the ground floor with scroll brackets and moulded cornices. Entrance front: 2 bay projection on left with one tripartite window on ground floor. 3 recessed bays to right with smaller C19 window to right of round headed sash on left; below this a C20 extension with small windows linked to entrance porch on right with square columns with moulded heads, and panelled door with semi- circular leaded radiating and wreathed fanlight over. On the right hand a 2 bay extension slightly projecting and returning on north east front with full height canted bay on left with sash windows: tripartite sash to the right on the first floor, that below replaced by single sash. No glazing bars to windows on this front. Interior contains C18 staircase with turned balusters and wreathed handrails. VCH. Vol.III p.399.
