2/59 Lower Hall Cottage
II
Cottage, early C17 with alterations and additions. Brick nogged
timber frame and brickwork with slate roof. Single storey and attic
one bay plus a gabled return. The added west wing, of brickwork,
forms an "L" shaped plan. Stone plinth, close studding with middle
rail. Framed, ledged and battened oak door with false strap hinges.
Replaced flush casements with leaded lattice glazing, those at first
floor level in remodelled gabled dormers with planted apex timbers and
bargeboards. The north gable is mainly only painted black and white
but has timbers in criss-cross pattern in the apex.
Interior: Bevelled beams, exposed joist and inglenook beam.
