5/29 Bohortha Farmhouse and garden
- walls
GV II
Farmhouse garden walls and fence. Early C19 with C17 rear wing. Stucco front to
south and east elsewhere rubble and possibly cob under render to wing. Delabole dry
slate hipped roof with brick chimneys over side walls. Main part double depth, with
central stair linked to single, depth rear wing at right angles to west. 2 storeys
2 window south front with tall 20-pane, horned sashes to ground floor and 16-pane
horned sashes to first floor. Pilaster quoins to this and 3 window east, entrance
front with central doorway. Original louvered porch and 8-panelled door. Windows to
left of doorway blind, otherwise 16-pane hornless sashes. Round-headed original
stair window to west wall.
Wing is earlier house and has stone chimney to upper i.e. west end. Eaves raised C19
and doveholes inserted to south.
North wall has doorway with old planked door left, 3-light small paned casement and
further wide opening.
Interior of main part has original dog leg stair, 6-panel doors, fireplace surround
with consoles, resited pantry screen with turned balusters and marble like limestone
flags said to be from Torbay area in vestibule and kitchen. Some chamfered beams
survive in earlier part.
Included in listing are rubble garden walls to south front. Low granite coped south
wall has rail and dowel wooden fence and similar gate with curved bracing under lock
rail.
