4/2 The Black Horse - II Inn. C17 origin with later alterations and additions. Whitewashed rubble, double Roman tiled roof with brick ridge and gable stacks. L-plan with later building in angle, through passage. 2 storeys and 4 windows, first floor all C20 sashes with glazing bars under eaves, ground floor has from left sash with wider central pane, sash, door with raised fillets and glazing, larger sash in exposed box; plinth. Right return has ground floor sash with wider central pane, nameboard at first floor; left return rendered with C20 single light at first floor. Rear has 2 doors, one to through passage, 2 small C20 lights under eaves; rear wing and addition, both single storey, form 2-span roof, with 2 C20 lights to rear and door and C20 window to inner side. Interior: stack to left of passage has wide fireplace with mantel on carved brackets, spice cupboard to right with raised panel on door, winder stair behind door to rear left of passage, upper stair light now concealed by rear wing, shutters to front windows with raised panels. Upper rooms not inspected.
