II
Drydock and wet dock: c1830. Sandstone rubble walls with heavy hammer-dressed sandstone blocks for a surround. Drydock has a long rectangular plan which narrows at the west end to a wooden sluice gate operated by a pulley on a C20 steel gantry. Floor canted towards a central drain. A wet dock of similar shape and construction joins the drydock to the canal.
This lies at the end of the tramway from Endon quarry to the canal and no doubt serviced the boats carrying the stone slate.
