II

Farmhouse with attached front wall. Circa early C18, with additions of later C18 and alteration of C19 and C20. Slatestone rubble; the front slate-hung. Slurried scantle slate roof, hipped, with ridge tiles. Stacks to left and right with brick shafts. The front garden wall is in slatestone rubble. Plan: Double depth plan, with central entrance; parlour to left and kitchen to right, each heated from an end stack. There is a stair hall to rear left and on unheated dairy to rear right. Probably later in the C18, a one-room plan addition was made to rear left, for a kitchen. The attached front wall encloses a garden at the front of the house. Exterior: 2 storeys, a symmetrical 3-window front. All windows are C20 3-light 8- pane casements. Central C20 gabled porch with C19 6-panelled inner door. The front wall is in rubble with rubble coping; at the left side there is a triangular arch over a plank door. At the front there is a central 2-centred arched doorway with brick arch and hollow stone ball finials, with plank door. The left end of the house is blind. The kitchen addition is to left, with external stack with curved oven at the base and 2-light 6-pane C20 casement to the loft. The right end has oven projection at the base of the stack. There is a 2-light 6-pane casement to the dairy and C19 6-pane sash above. At the rear there is a small 2-pane window to the loft over the dairy. The kitchen addition to right has stable-type plank door and 2-light 2-pane casement with segmental brick arch. Small lean-to set in the angle to left. Interior: The entrance passage has an C18 plank and muntin screen partition wall to each side; 2-panelled early C18 doors. The room to right has C18 moulded ceiling beams. Each room has C20 end fireplace. There is a similar screen partition wall to rear of the room to right. The dairy has an C18 2-panelled door with ventilator grille; brick floor and slate shelves. Winder stair with stick balusters; cupboard under the stair with C18 2-panelled door. The rear kitchen has an open fireplace with timber lintel and cloam oven with cast iron door; there is a ladder attached to the ceiling giving access to the loft over the kitchen. At first floor there are three rooms, all divided by similar screen partitions; each room has an early C18 2- panelled door. The room to rear has been partitioned in C20.
