ST LEVAN SW 322 SE 7/179 (was 29/151 grade III) Mount Whistle Cottage 22.12.87 II

Farmhouse. C18, or possibly older and remodelled in the C18, extended in the C20. Granite rubble with granite dressings. Wheat reed thatched roofs. Original roof sweeps lower at rear. Dressed granite chimneys over the gable ends. Plan: Original house (now 1 room) was originally 2 main rooms with kitchen living room on the left and parlour on the right with lobby entrance and stair between. Probably there were shallow pantries behind the front rooms. Built into the bank on the left. C20 extension on the right-hand side and at lower angels in front. Exterior: 2 storeys. Nearly symmetrical 2 window front (original house) with doorway slightly right of middle. C20 door and windows in C18 openings. Old 4-pane window with bullseye panes at rear. Interior: C18 features include large granite fireplace at left-hand end, bowtell moulded ceiling beams, some plank and muntin partitions and pegged roof structure with original C18 plastered under-layer of thatch attached to original battens.
